You can't truly experience all the wonderful things Portland has to offer without having some kind of excuse, and these are the reasons why I am writing this guide. 1. The Portland Food Scene I can't think of any other food scene in the world as exciting and delicious as Portland's food scene. While a lot of food is sold through food trucks, many food trucks offer fresh dishes from around the world. 2. The People You will be surrounded by people who are passionate about all things food. It's not a surprise. Portland is a city that has a large Asian population, and if you are not aware, there are more people of Asian descent living in Portland than you might think. 3. Foodie Friends One of the things that makes Portland unique is the huge amount of foodie friends. Many of those friends live near me, so it's pretty easy to be a foodie there. There's nothing worse than driving to work, only to realize you just arrived at one of the most delicious pizza places in the country. 4. Music There's not too much to say about the Portland music scene. I'll be honest here, I really didn't know much about it prior to moving here, but I really love it. Not only are there tons of great bands that are making music in the Portland area, but there are tons of awesome festivals that are coming out all the time. I'll definitely be heading out to a few of those next year and maybe even go back in a couple of years. The one thing I do really miss is going to a punk show, which is why I'm trying to bring the same kind of energy and music into my life by working on a music blog. But don't get me wrong, I'll be posting as much music as I can whenever I can. 5. The Food Scene I'm so excited to tell you all about this one, because I love food. I love eating it all the time, and I have a soft spot in my heart for the farmers markets. I mean, look at this, it's a gorgeous farm stand in Portland called St. Paul Farmer's Market, and you should check it out every Friday. It's a little bit off the beaten path, but they have lots of amazing food and the people there make you feel at home. So get out there and enjoy.
